Abstract
The biggest chalenge to cleaner air and lower fuel consumption is simply the attitudes and behaviors of consumers. The financial, ecological and social returns from a few simple changes in driving behavior make a training one of the best investments these days. Ecodriving can provide benefits immediately, such as: reduced fuel costs, lower accident rates, reduced maintenance costs. Usually, the driver is forced to accelerate, decelerate, brake and change gears a lot more often in the congested traffic of the rush hours. Such a process has a considerable impact on fuel consumption and on polluting emissions. Any method that contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and which can be commercialised in a sensitive manner, must be applied to save the environment. Tests in both U.S. and Europe have shown ecodriving to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 24%. Within this context, this article aims a critical review of the state-of-the-art in the on-board vehicle’s indications for improving the driving style in order to minimize fuel consumption and pollutant emissions and also to present a evaluation method of driver behavior. One thing is clear. Ecodriving saves money and emissions.
