Abstract
The study is realized for the main county transport route Piteşti – Vedea and for local public transport network Piteşti, because these involve large variations in altitude: the county route Piteşti – Vedea crosses Cotmenei Hill and local public transport network Piteşti contains routes that overcome the Argeş river terraces on which Piteşti is located. With the help of GPS equipment the routes have been defined, both horizontally and vertically, and the obtained results were processed by analytical relationships that have shown that a significant proportion of fuel consumption is determined by the braking process on the down slopes on route Piteşti – Vedea, as well as on sections of the local routes that descend to the Center from districts Trivale, Războieni and Craiovei. The results demonstrate the opportunity to promote on these routes means of transport equipped with devices for energy recovery consumed by the braking process.
