Abstract

ABSTRACT: The paper presents a comparison between a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) car and an electric car. Different criteria are used for comparison. The analysis shows that in the next 10 year the electric cars will probably dominate in individual city transport. There are many producers of electric cars today. There are many models of electric cars. The process of substitution of ICE cars with electric has already started. The problems of advantages and disadvantages of electric cars have no simple answer. There are investigations concerning comparison between electric and conventional cars, including separate analysis [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]. Unfortunately the most popular comparison is not deep enough. At first look, comparison between electric and conventional cars looks like presented on fig.1. There are no emissions from electric cars, independence from OPEC, smaller range, slower recharge, but 6 times cheaper traveling [8]. Is this absolutely true or not exactly? We have to compare electric and conventional ICE cars using the following criteria: - Initial price; - Fuel costs; - Performance; - Energy efficiency; - Environment protection problems; - Existing infrastructure; - Maintenance.
