Abstract

The semi-rigid rear axle with H-shape pulled beam, is the most spread solution, not only for the small motor vehicles. From its first release in mass production, this kind of axle was subjected to continuous improvements and construction modification. In the last years were developed new constructive solutions, characterized by using closed profiles with thin walls for the transversal beam. These solutions have a better behavior for bending and torsion, comparatively with the classical “V” profile, with internal twist beam and reduce the mass. The paper presents classical constructive version of a semi-rigid rear axle with “V” open profile beam and internal twist beam and make a detailed analysis of a semi-rigid axle with closed profile beam, highlighting the special material and its hydroforming manufacturing. Also, is developed an ANSYS model, used to study the behavior of the axle for different position of the profile and for different ride conditions.
