ABSTRACT
The paper presents the concept of a computer program designed for automotive powertrain modeling and simulation. The Object Pascal language was chosen, because of the powerful BorlandTM DelphiTM integrated development environment (IDE). The application was designed in order to offer Object – Oriented Modeling (OOM) support for generic automotive powertrain systems. Nevertheless, for the moment only the transmission is a very detailed sub-system, while the other systems are simpler objects. The authors explain the objects’ structure (hierarchy and inclusion), how they interact, and a standstill acceleration simulation is performed, in order to validate the model’s correctness. To do so, a SimulinkTM model – implementing exactly the same equations as our present OOM model – was compared, showing identical simulation results. Emphasis is on the relative simple approach of variable dynamics systems (as compared with classical simulation environments), which is a clear advantage of the proposed modeling technique. Finally, ideas about program generalization are drawn and the guidelines for creating an OOM virtual vehicle model are sketched. Also, advantages and drawbacks of this technique are discussed.
