ABSTRACT
The use of vegetable oil been proposed as an alternative fuel for Diesel engines. The purpose of this study is to investigate the combustion of rapeseed oil with Diesel fuel mixtures in a direct injection Diesel engine, and compare it to that of a conventional Diesel fuel. Experimental measurements of performance and emissions were performed as a function of engine load for different mixtures. The rapeseed oil fuel gave lower HC emissions and CO emissions than Diesel fuel at optimum operating conditions. The results for smoke emissions were varied. The paper presents the results regarding chemical emissions using Diesel fuel blended with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 30% rapeseed oil. It is also analyzed air fuel mixing formation and the influence of vegetable oil on engine performances. The paper contains table and representative charts.
