ABSTRACT
In the last years more and more medium and small passenger cars are fitted-out with Automated Mechanical Transmissions instead of the conventional manual transmissions in order to respond to the ever-increasing demands on comfort, fuel economy and environment protection. Previously used in sport cars, where costs and gear shifting comfort is less important than the dynamic performances, these types of transmissions needed several modifications in order to meet the demands imposed by the new applications. In this paper is made an evaluation of the shifting performances of Automated Mechanical Transmissions using AMESim simulation program (Advanced Modeling Environment for performing Simulations of engineering systems). Also, a number of gear shifting strategies were tested and it is shown the influences of some key parameters. The results obtained in this research work can contribute to find out the appropriate control strategy for the actuators of the gearshift control system.
