Abstract
During the last few years the BIS shipyard from Split in cooperation with FESB department of the
University of Split have performed a series of tests on critical structural details at the new ship engines. Some typical examples are presented in this paper.
A first case study is an investigation on fatigue failures on the main engine lateral supports performed during the sea trials.
A second case study is analysis of maximal stresses on the test bed at locations inside the engine where fatigue failures are likely to occur.
