Abstract

Digital reconstruction of three-dimensional solid objects has recently received a great impulse because of the new possibility it offers in component design.

Such process is used in many automotive industries, as example in order to convert a solid object, the prototype, into a mathematical model, ready for all the subsequent of design, optimisation and CAM.

In this work we describe the advances of development of a system for the non-contact and fast digitisation of objects. Such a system is based on the projection of structured light and the acquisition of only one image of the object.

In this way the acquisition time can be reduced virtually to zero, with large advantages in term of time consumption and extended capability and applications.

Some results for different application on automotive components are shown.
