Abstract

A miniaturized system solution can be realized on the basis of the innovative and integration-friendly Power Capacitor Chip (PCC) technology. This technology was mainly developed for the DC link capacitor, one of the key components of an HEV converter. This paper shows the benefits of the PCC concept, the main process steps and the important design basics with some examples of design-ins. In the power range of HEVs, the main requirements are high switching frequencies and operating currents. This will increase the need for PCCs in what was previously the domain of aluminum electrolytic capacitors. The first motorintegrated circular converter for HEV is thus realized with small sized PCCs and the 2nd HEV generation is built with a circular shaped PCC with a diameter of 270mm, an integrated busbar and Y-capacitor functionality.
