Abstract

Nano CeO2 particles have been known as catalyst for diesel fuel. Shape, size, and structure of the nano partices have direct effects on chemical active of the system as well as application oppotunity for the nano. In the nano particles, majority of atoms are located on the surface and their propotions will increase as reduced the nano size. Energy of fluid surface is always smaller than equivelent energy of the crystal. A reduction in the size leads to an incerease in surface energy and therefore a decrease in the nano crystal melting point. Xeri Dioxide crystal is a potential oxide material which is applicable widerly in different industry due to many advantages. Nano CeO2 can oxidize soot and HCs in exhaust gas at low temperature. Nano CeO2 can help to clean piston and cylinder head surface. At lean mixtures, the nano can absorb exess O2 and NOx and at rich mixtures, CeO2 releases O2 which helps to improve combustion process. Based on examining properties and operating mechanism of CeO2 nano particles as a helpful catalyst in the C.I engine combustion process, this paper analyzes production methods for synthesis of CeO2 nano particles to add into diesel fuel. Experimental results show that the engine operating on diesel fuel mixed with 4-6ppm CeO2 nano and active surface BP offers a lower specific fuel consumption and less exhaust emissions.
