Abstract

The advanced airbag regulation should be met for US market. All of automakers have chosen the airbag suppression regulation option for meeting the child protection regulation among the advanced airbag regulation. So, when the child is seated on the passenger seat, the passenger airbag is not deployed. And they have applied the Occupant Classification System for that regulation for the suppression system. But as Occupant Classification System field claims are serious and the Low Risk Deployment airbag technologies are growing, most of the automakers are trying to choose the other child protection regulation option, the Low Risk Deployment. In this paper, child protection regulation among the advanced airbag regulation is studied and the Low Risk Deployment System is distinguished between Full and Semi Low Risk Deployment System. The necessity of Low Risk Deployment airbag development is confirmed with the technical trend consulting. The patent mapping is performed for the technology analysis of the Low Risk Deployment airbag and Occupant Classification System. The Low Risk Deployment airbag and the new Occupant Classification System are developed with each vendor’s technologies. The superior technologies for Low Risk Deployment system are verified at the NHTSA verification test Lab. As a result of research, the production technology for the Low Risk Deployment system is confirmed.
