Abstract

Aerodynamics around automobile has become more important in automotive industry. Aerodynamic simulation using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is now a standard tool to solute this problem and is becoming more and more integrated in the aerodynamic design process of new vehicles. One simulation model prediction aerodynamics is less cost than real one. However, it’s not easy to accurate predicting the flow around, the aerodynamic force and the moment on automobile. The complex configurations and flow physic involved in automotive aerodynamics require turbulent models and speed of computer using. This paper discusses effects of method to solute these problems to simulate automotive aerodynamics and choice the best way to calculate. Computational fluid dynamics was used to simulate the flow field over an automobile. The simulation was based on a steady state formulation and the focus of the simulation was to assess the capabilities of the currently used CFD tools for vehicle aerodynamic development for automobile. This study shows the effect on drag coefficient difference from models as Fast back, Notch back and Square back. The detailed investigate of flow field data; surface pressures of three models are shown. This suggests that the steady state CFD simulation can be used to aid the aerodynamic development of automobile vehicles.
