Abstract

Product life cycle engineering is technique in the product and processes designing for minimizing negative impacts to the environment at each stage of a product life cycle. In accordance with the product life cycle concept, product models that are made at the design stage have to include environmental factors at each stage of life cycles. Including environmental factors at the product development stage is hoping for capability to prevent the negative effects to the environment that are caused by that product at the next stages (manufacturing, distribution, utilizing, maintenance, and waste). This research deals with the design of product model where the environmental impact information is included inside. Product model designing that has information of environmental impact of materials will be shown at this research. Product model is the basic of knowledge that contains apart or all knowledge and information about products at each stage of product life cycles, for example sales, design, production, assembling, maintenance, and reuse stages. Product model that was developed is computer-based product models in the form of database modeling and software application. Product model was developed with the object oriented modeling technique. The developed application is a web-based application. The design process of product models consists of integration of an environmental impact information stage then to be followed by modeling based on object orientation method.
