Abstract

The abnormal tire pressure in automobile is one of the main reasons for tire blow-out. Monitoring the tire pressure and alarm when abnormal is an important means to prevent malignant accidents. On the basis of the tire pressure tests on road, the author put forward firstly the concepts about original pulse frequency and standard pulse frequency from wheel speed sensors. And the author proposed a method which can indirectly monitor the tire pressure using the standard pulse frequency. The method includes the signal processing, the tire calibration, the pulse frequency standardization, the standard pulse frequency comparison, the abnormal tire pressure judgment, and the warning mode. Many factors of tires will make a difference in the pulse frequency of wheel speed sensors. The tire calibration can clear up the difference, thus tire pressure becomes the only factor to affect the pulse frequency of wheel speed. According to the method, recording and analyzing the pulse frequency of the wheel speed sensors in a certain distance, we can indirectly inspect the relationship of the tire pressures. The warning mode is designed using the small sample statistic method. Experimental samples of the tire pressure monitoring system have been designed and tested. The real vehicle tests on roads demonstrate that the method has positive potential for future development.
