Abstract

Engines VIKYNO model RV 125 have been manufactured from 1997. At present, over 50,000 engines are sold. It is the most popular small engine using for agricultural purposes not only in Vietnam but also in ASEAN countries. RV 125 is a single cylinder water cooled diesel with direct injection. Nowaday, LPG is quickly being developed as an economical and low polluted fuel. Benefits of using LPG in diesel for the dual fuel mode are both economicl and environmental. The RV 125 engine is modified to use LPG in dual fuel mode for studying the change of performance, emission and fuel consumption. This paper presents the foundation of designing, the modal dual fuel diesel and experimental results. The research engine was equipped with an mass airflowmeter, an engine speed sensor, a LPG injector to control LPG injection, a servomotor to control diesel injection and a electronic contron unit. The primary fuel – LPG was injected and mixed with air and compressed and ignited by small amount of diesel controlled by electronic control unit. An engine map with amount of diesel and LPG for operating conditions of the dual fuel diesel was built. From test results, dual fuel diesel VIKYNO RV125 could reach 93,6% max power, NOx was reduced 79%, LPG could decrease 52,57% diesel consumption, overall fuel cost was reduced 21,32%. The dual fuel diesel uses LPG as efficiently as diesel fuel while greatly reducing emissions, and operating just as safely as a diesel or gasoline engine. The implimentation of LPG-diesel RV 125 in practice would help to protect environment and reduce the dependence on diesel.
