Abstract

In this paper, an algorithm of automotive airflow meter swappability is proposed. The feasibility of the proposed method was proved with mathematical simulation of replacement of automotive airflow sensors and experimental results. This proposed solution of automotive airflow meter swappability owns several advantages such as reducing repair cost, replacement of scarce components, reducing repair time, and raising initiative in vehicle maintenance in Vietnam and developing countries. The mathematic model built in this research not only allows us to learn and investigate the possibility of the project’s solutions, but also enables the prediction the characteristic of automotive airflow sensors and the airflow sensors’ characteristic converter before the final products are produced. With the software-based implementation in this research, the lack of hardware as well as the prototype circuits can be possible, and the simulation helps us to reduce development time and cost to the quickly modify the programs and control algorithms. In addition, the combination of this simulated model and the communication program created by LabVIEW language is used to create a library of characteristic maps of airflow meters. The characteristic map is build based on different operating conditions of the experimental engine as well as a wide range of engine’s speed. As the result, the characteristic maps of several automotive airflow meters can be embedded into a microcontroller considered as a characteristic converter for automotive airflow meter swappability. The result of this work was used to conducted commercial vehicle-based test bed to realize and investigate the proposed solution of automotive airflow meter swappability.
