Abstract

Abstract: Many specialists enquire themselves after an automotive accident what are the critical parameters that were processed few moments before and after the collision, and how the equipments of a modern car functioned, in order to prevent severe occupant´s injuries and a complete active and passive car safety. There are important to analyze also driver´s actions, the evolution of all electronic parameters measured on a modern automotive mechatronic system and if it is possible to have a precise location and a trajectory shape of the car before, during, and after collision. The paper makes first steps in this field and proposes a data interface device that can collect and record critical parameters, suitable for an accident reconstruction of any car equipped with OBD II and EOBD. The OBD AR developed in this research wants to be an instrument and part of a future complex system, enable to analyze engineering and injury causation issues, involved in motor vehicle accident cases.

Keywords: OBD II, data retrieval equipment, car black box data, accident reconstruction
