Abstract

Abstract: The subject of this paper is included in the Road Traffic area, since it concerns the efficiency of two equipments used in order to monitor the traffic flows. These are the inductive loop detectors and the video surveillance cameras. The inductive loop detectors represent a special category of traffic detectors since they are road traffic data acquisition equipments. They are placed in the road pavement and they are used in order to measure several traffic parameters, like the vehicles´ speed, the traffic lane volumes and they are also able to record the number of the vehicles that passed over them. The video surveillance cameras accomplish the same tasks, the only difference is that they are placed over the traffic flows and they have another angle of recording the vehicles. In this paper, the efficiencies of the above mentioned equipments used in order to monitor the traffic flows are compared and the appropriate conclusions are stated.
