Abstract
Abstract: Stick slip phenomena in synchronizer friction cones due to alternate wet and dry friction, and to mechanical clearances at shaft couplings induce flip-flop and dead space like nonlinearities. Simulation with SIMULINK identifies impossibility of synchronization and thus of downchange of gears in certain conditions. As effect, drivers cannot use engine braking in downslope travel.
