Abstract

Abstract: The squat behavior decreases the body-ground clearance, increasing the risk to strike the body by the ground unevenness. Staring for the squat phenomenon specific at vehicles using standard shock absorbers, observed on hydropulse benches and demonstrated theoretically, the paper presents a new shock absorber solution, called shortly VZN, eliminating this effect and giving other advantages. This reason the paper presents a simulation showing squat behavior for both kind of shock absorbers and a VZN design solution. The self-adjustable shock absorber VZN, an intelligent shock absorber, realized without electronics or mechanisms, grant with European Patent EP1190184B and Romanian Patent 118546, is much better than standard ones because confers possibilities of stepwise adjustment of damping force as function as the instantaneous piston position.

Keywords: self-adjustable shock absorber, metering hole, skyhook, squat, filling valve.
