Abstract

Abstract: Since the appearance of the Toyota Prius, dual hybrid systems (which operate by speed addition principle, via a planetary power-split-device) have been seen as a radical new approach to the class of hybrid electric powertrain systems. The authors present two cinematic variants of planetary units - based hybrid transmission designs, and discuss the advantages and drawbacks of every solution. Forward and backward simulations are performed on two drive cycles, in order to evaluate the right MHEV solution for a compact car.
