Abstract:
The transportation field and especially the public transportation have got three main issues to address regarding energy.
Air pollution Green house effect gazes emissions Availability of conventional fossil energy There are different ways of dealing with these problems. Regarding solutions based on Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), this is important to outline that Irisbus Iveco vehicles are already compliant to EEV standard. We should list also other technologies such as CNG, Bio Diesel, GTL and BTL. Irisbus Iveco is already involved on these technologies and by the way is the leader for CNG buses in Europe. There is also the electric based evolution as a second alternative. Hybrid Electric cars and buses have been developed worldwide and have been operating for many years. Irisbus Iveco has been playing an important role within this field with developments of full electric buses but also Hybrid buses. This paper describes what the Irisbus Iveco HEV experience is for public transportation, gives a guide line of what the bus market is asking for and what the different alternatives are for bus builders.
