Abstract
EGR is a primary emission control technique for the suppression of NOx. However, combustion instability is occurred occasionally due to mal-distribution of fresh air and EGR gas at each cylinder. To improve EGR distribution characteristics, numerical simulations are performed to obtain the flow and mixing characteristics and the EGR gas distribution at each cylinder for various EGR gas mixer configurations in a 4-cylinder engine. The results show that slit type mixer has better EGR gas distribution compare with other types of mixer including the basic mixer.
