Abstract
The wide contact area between the flowing fuel and high flow velocity in the fine filter media increases the possibility of electrostatic discharge in the fuel filter. In this study, investigations of electrostatic discharge characteristics have been carried out in the fuel systems of gasoline engines depending on the filter media conductivity. For the experiment, two types of in-tank type plastic modular filters are prepared equipped with pulp based media and specially composed conductive media. In this study, investigations of electrostatic discharge characteristics have been carried out in the plastic modular fuel pumps of gasoline engines depending on the ground design feature. The experimental results indicate that an accumulation of electrostatic voltage depends on filter media conductivity and ground through partially embedded conductive plastics.
