Abstract

Many years have past since HCCI concept was proposed, however, the concept has not actualized in an actual CI engine. The reason is why the concept is only applied to the part load of the engine due to the generation of knocking. The authors propose the new concept to realize HCCI combustion in a CI engine in this paper. The outline is the use of fuel oil with high volatility, the single stage combustion at the low and medium load and the two-stage combustion at the high load. This paper describes the fundamental experimental results relating to the concept as the first step.
