Abstract

This paper presents further investigation into the effect of applying over-expansion cycle together with the combustion enhancement on the engine performance. The test engine with the stroke volume of 650cc was used with three kinds of expansion ratio (geometric compression ratio) from 10 to 20 and four sets of intake valve closure timing from 0 to 110 deg C.A. ABDC. In order to enhance turbulence of the intake flow, two methods were applied. One is closing one of two intake valves and the other is installing butterfly valve at the intake manifold. As a result, ISFCg can be decreased by 4.4%.
