Fuel Breakup near Nozzle Exit of Multi-Hole Injector for DISI Engine

Abstract

Experimental investigations of fuel breakup very close to injection hole of practical multi-hole injector, which is used in direct injection spark ignition (DISI) engine, were carried out. Visualizations of primary spray structure were demonstrated using a high-speed video camera (max. 1Mfps). Using high-speed camera, spray core break-up can be visualized with high temporal resolution. Length of spray core very close to injection hole fluctuates due to the large slip velocity between the primary spray and ambient air. Surface waves of primary spray boundary can be recognized. Higher injection pressure makes larger wavelength of surface waves of primary spray from the injection hole.
