Abstract

The spray and the entrained ambient air motions produced by a swirl-type D.I. gasoline injector were simultaneously measured by combining the laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and the particle image velocimetry (PIV) techniques. For the simultaneous measurement of the spray and the ambient air velocities, two CCD cameras which use different transmittance filters were adopted in this study. Mie scattering from the fuel spray (wave length: 532nm) and the fluorescence from tracer particles (570-629nm) were separately captured by the CCD cameras. The effects of split injection on the spray and the entrained ambient air motions were investigated.
