The Effects of Pressure on Turbulent Burning Velocity of Premixed Flames and Their Correlations with Lewis Number

Abstract

The influence of pressure on spherically propagating propane-air premixed turbulent flames has been studied with experiments carried out using a constant volume fan-stirred combustion vessel. The effects of mixture strength (equivalence ratio =0.8, 1.0 and 1.3) and turbulence intensity (u' =0.80 and 1.59m/s) have been studied for mixture pressures of 0.10 to 0.50MPa. It was noted that the ratio of the turbulent to unstretched laminar burning velocity (utn / ul ) increased with mixture pressure. Possible correlations of utn / ul were developed in terms of u' / ul, Markstein, Lewis and turbulent Reynolds numbers.
