Abstract

Combustion experiments of partially-prevaporized fuel sprays have been performed with a rapid expansion apparatus that can generate monodispersed fuel spray with narrow droplet diameter distribution by the condensation method. Effects of fuel droplets on flame propagation were investigated for ethanol sprays at various pressures from 0.2 to 1.0 MPa. It was found that flame speed of partially-prevaporized sprays decreases as the increase in pressure. The flame speed of partially-prevaporized sprays below 0.9 in the total equivalence ratio exceeds that of premixed gases of the same total equivalence ratio at all pressures.
