Abstract
This paper investigates the effect of two-stage injection, termed pre-shock injection in the paper, as one of the attempts to enhance the mixing of spray tip region where large NOx formation occurred. NOx reduction effect was examined in three different apparatus. The results in a propane jet plane in atmospheric pressure condition and in an actual diesel engine indicated lower NOx emission levels with pre-shock injection. However the result in a constant volume combustion bomb did not show apparent difference by the pre-shock injection. The paper discusses the possibility of the concept and necessary means to achieve the concept.
