Abstract
Micro cars that according to the European Community Rules are defined as quadricycles are a quite young product.
These were manufactured for the first time in France more than thirty years ago. For this reason most of the manufacturers of this type of means of transport are to be found in that country. It was France indeed that firstly created a national legislation to rule its characteristics.
The European Union introduced into its legislation this product a few years ago, i.e. in 1997 by including it in the set of rules concerning mopes.
Currently quadricycles are one of the few, if not the only, means of four-wheeled road transport to refer to a European legislation allowing a total homologation in force in all countries belonging to the Community.
