Abstract
This paper describes the outcomes of a collaboration held between Ferrari Auto Spa and KAEMaRT group of the University of Parmas Industrial Engineering Department; such a collaboration started with a partnership in the
European project BRITE DMU-BP; a project focused on the issues arising when companies introduce in their processes the new technologies and methodologies needed to enrol Digital Mock Up in the development of products.
At present the collaboration is focused on the analysis and implementation in Ferrari Auto of a VPDM (Virtual Product Development Management) infrastructure, aimed to be the enabling technology for the deployment of simulations and Digital Mock-Up in the Automotive design process.
The main goal of the VPDM project is to build the supporting infrastructure for a good exploitation of digital simulations in the product development process; this requires two kind of enablers:
- Methodology: procedures, rules; and, generally speaking, the Knowledge needed to carry on the design process with the better deployment of Digital Simulations.
- Technology: Data and process management.
In this paper we will give an overview of the work done, regarding both the IT architecture and the methodology developed.
