Abstract - The complex acoustic urban field is variable according to the different driving situations and according to driver behavior. From the intake of the vehicle to the exhaust, through the mechanics, the engine, the tires, the road, the speed, the geometry around the car... there are plenty of technical parameters that influence the noise emitted by a car. But after all that technical parameters, there is a driver, whose behavior behind the steering wheel will be, finally, the last parameter that will influence the noise emitted by a car.

The general purpose of this paper is to get an individual objective representation of the regular urban condition in a city. Particularly, this paper focuses on the ‘stop & go’ noise emitted by a car, highly influenced by drivers’ behavior.

In order to study different driver behaviors, this paper will measure different drivers with a reference car in a stop&go test, designed specifically for this study. The different driver subjects are current teachers and students of the Polytechnic school of

Girona.

The second part of this paper is to analysis how different is the noise of the same car used by different drivers, test some specific parameters that could illustrate the different driver behaviors, and finally extrapolate the results statistically, trying to infer the general urban ‘stop & go’ behavior.
