Abstract - Lots of techniques have been developed to assist drivers to drive under safe conditions. To support and improve active safety systems like ABS or ESP, a tire-road friction estimation logic has been developed. The sensors used to get the friction-related parameters are existing ones on modern vehicles. The supplied signals are steering angle, lateral acceleration, yaw rate, brake pressure, engine revolution, wheel speeds, air-spring pressure and some others. An adaptive estimator is presented for calculating road friction coefficient values from measured signals. Finally, demonstration examples show the results of the proposed approach.
