Abstract – Semi-spherical CVT(SS-CVT) is a friction type CVT, which transmits power by the frictional force between a spherical shaped variator and an output disk. In this study, the design of the variator was modified in order to cancel the thrust forces generated by bevel gears. In addition, the mathematical model for analyzing dynamics of the modified SS-CVT was developed. Since 2-dimensional friction behavior is occurred on a contact point between a variator and a disk, the assumption of perfect rolling is not correct. Hence, we developed the model describes the 2-dimiensional friction force as a function of velocity difference vector on the contact point. Finally the procedure of solving equations of motion was presented.
