Abstract - An automatic design procedure has been developed to seek an optimised set of variables, which fulfil customers’ requirements. The ultimate objective is to reduce costs and human interaction in the preliminary design stages (1), and speed up the process. The method designed consists in the automatic geometry, mesh, boundary conditions generation and execution of a plastic trim component simulation within an optimisation environment. The optimisation process seeks automatically for the optimal set of design variables to achieve the best response of the ultimate plastic design component. The automatic process allows to shorten the time required in the design process. The optimal values reached are used as reference values for the final design.
