Abstract
Company SIEMENS VDO Automotive is a world leading supplier in vehicle electronic systems for passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, commercial vehicles, trucks and buses. Its Tire Guard solution (tire pressure monitoring) is installed on many vehicle models.
Company SYEGON is today an actor recognized in the world of vehicle tire pressure variation systems. Developed first for military vehicles, the CTIS is the first active tire inflation system installed by a civil heavy trucks manufacturer (MAN). It is also fitted to most of the rally-raid vehicles, in particular "Paris Dakar".
For many years, the vehicle is the subject of many technological researches aiming to improve performances and safety. Statistical studies show that 42 % of the motorists roll with under-inflated tires and that one accident among twenty on motorway is caused by the bursting of an under-inflated tire.
Today, the Active Tire Pressure Control solution makes it possible to adjust automatically the pressure of each tire according to the driving conditions (speed, load, state of the roadway...), to compensate for natural air leakage, and even for a slow leakage due to a puncture.
Thanks to its ability of very fast deflating of the tires, the Syegon system also allows to significantly reduce the stopping distance in the event of emergency braking on dry ground.
By developing inter-system engineering, involving active tire pressure monitoring, chassis management (ABS, ESP, active suspension, air levelling, electrical steering), driver information and communications technologies, Siemens VDO is able to propose to the vehicle manufacturers innovative solutions towards comfort and safety.
