Abstract

Keywords - NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), gear rattle, gearbox, hub and sleeve coupling, design solution.

Abstract - In recent years customer expectations regarding noise and vibration performance are continuously growing and because of this, NVH refinement plays an important role during the development of a new car.

Among the principal sources of noise (especially in terms of perceived quality) is the gear rattle coming from the gearbox and so many efforts are being directed towards its elimination.

Previous studies on a specific FGP gearbox (“strip technique”) showed that gear rattle noise was mainly due to the hub and sleeve couplings.

This paper presents a new design solution for these components which considerably reduces the problem in terms of subjective and objective evaluations. It also describes in detail the development from the evaluation stage to the tuning phase. The final assessment and the tests carried out at each step are also illustrated.
