Abstract

The matching between hydraulic torque converter and engine has a crucial effect on the drivability and fuel consumption of vehicle. In the traditional matching design method, the purpose was making full use of the high performance of engine, without dealing with the effect of driving situation variation and different working states of engine and torque converter system. However, due to the working state was complex and difficult to determine, this method was prevailing used now.

This paper put forward a method based on the distribution of driving situation. Introducing statistical parameters to describe the distribution of working situation, the effect of working states can be taken into account. Considering the different working states of the engine and torque converter system, this paper ameliorated the traditional matching design method to make the result more close to the using requirement. Comparing with the traditional method through virtual model simulation, this optimal matching design result had considerably improved the bulk performance of vehicle. Though this method made the torque converter designing system more perfect and complete, there is much work need to be done in the coming research.
