CFD and FEM Analysis on Ventilated Disc Brake

Abstract

In this research, aerodynamic and thermal performance of ventilated disc brake were calculated by CFD analysis and thermal deformation of rotor was estimated by FEM analysis. Considering that a car s braking while driving on a downhill with constant speed, steady state flow analysis and unsteady thermal analysis were performed to calculate temperature rise in the rotor during breaking period. To estimate thermal deformation of the rotor, FEM analysis was also performed with gird system and temperature distribution obtained by CFD analysis. Same computational analyses were performed for several different models to compare the performances each other and the geometry of rotor with better performance was suggested.
