Research on Road Condition Estimation for Automotive Traction Control System

Abstract

It’s very important to estimate the road condition real-time for TCS to obtain a better control effect. Three ways of evaluating the road surface condition are introduced, and some commonly used tire/road friction states estimation methods are illustrated. It’s shown that such methods cannot guarantee the accurate control effect, and a new algorithm is proposed to predict the motion states with only the driven wheel information, which will guide to the precise estimation of road condition with some vehicular dynamic parameters.
