Abstract

The conventional shift schedules are designed to make the vehicle have optimum dynamical characteristic or the optimum fuel economy. However, these shift schedules cannot adapt to different drivers. To overcome the shortcoming of conventional shift schedules, a new shift schedule based on driving style inference is proposed in this paper, which can make use of the information of the sensors attached to the automatic transmission to deduce the driver’s personal characteristic and produce corresponding shift schedule to satisfy different drivers’ individual demands. This shift schedule embodies the new vehicle control concept of control based on individual preference and it is one of the developing trends of future automatic transmission.
