Abstract

LP direct gas injection engine has possibility in better emission, power and fuel efficiency in comparison with gasoline engine or conventional LP gas engine. In this paper, the in-cylinder spray characteristics of LP gas has been studied in the RCEM (Rapid Compression and Expansion Machine) as a preliminary research for the development of LP gas direct injection engine with low emission, high power and fuel efficiency.

During the direct injection of LP gas into the combustion chamber of RCEM, both spray development and flame propagation characteristics according to the different shapes of piston bowls and the injection conditions have been photographed by the high speed shadow and methods in order to investigate better shape of piston bowl and optimum condition of injected timing, etc. The results are compared with each other and also those of gasoline fuel.
