Abstract

Retarders are installed in commercial vehicles to relieve the load on the service braking system. The additional braking power to the live axles of vehicles produced by the application of retarders alters the braking force distribution and, as a consequence, has a decisive effect on vehicle stability. Therefore, the braking action of retarders and service braking systems should be controlled by an intelligent braking management system.
