Abstract

Catalytic converters have been put into use rapidly these two years in china. Besides their emission reduction performance, their durability now plays a critical role. In china, converter performance may be not readily apparent because of the methods used to evaluate all kinds of technology. The particular durability and evaluation procedures or certain vehicle-engine-catalyst systems effect some of the catalyst performances. This paper illustrates all factors that will effect the performance of converters based upon the SAE papers. Under Chinese running condition, we select some factors, for example, the fast aging methods (different aging duration) and the sample vehicles(different engines or same type engines), to verify the effect on the converter’s performance. The performance benefits are characterized with a matrix of aging methods, engine bench evaluation methods, and vehicle-engine systems.
