Abstract

This study represents the air cleaner characteristics of the motor cycle with 124cc and 4- stroke engine. The main purpose of this study is the possibility of the adopting the STS(Stainless Steel) wire mesh air cleaner for recycling. As the main experimental parameters, the dynamic force, the fuel consumption and the exhaust gas analysis were carried out, and as the test air cleaner, the synthetic fiber air cleaner and the three different types of 200mesh, 250mesh, 300mesh of STS wire air cleaner were used for this experimental study. As the results of this study, the performance of STS wire air cleaner was similar to the fiber air cleaner at 9000rpm, but the 300mesh of STS air cleaner had a high horse power and maximum engine torque at 9500rpm. The synthetic fiber air cleaner had low CO distribution at 6500rpm and the 300mesh in STS wire air cleaner showed lower HC distributions at all experimental regions. The engine power was almost similar to fiber air cleaner and the wire mesh air cleaner. The distributions of CO showed low concentration with –5.69%, -0.025% and -6.59%.

These values correspond to the 200mesh, the 250mesh and the 300mesh, respectively at the engine speed of 2500rpm. The distributions of HC showed the lowest concentration at the 200mesh wire air cleaner. The distributions of HC concentration were showed about –14.74%, and it was lower than the fiber air cleaner at the 200mesh wire air cleaner.
