Abstract
There are presently several different types of mid-sized adult male side impact dummies available to be used in side impact crash tests. Two of these dummies have been adopted in regulation. This paper reports on a series of Heidelberg sled side impact tests that was conducted using WorldSID, BioSID, EuroSID and ES-2 dummies. All tests were 6.8m/s impacts into a rigid wall, with specified requirements for pelvic and thorax response. The paper reports on the results obtained, comparing the responses of the dummies and assessing the biofidelity of each against the requirements of ISO Technical Report 9790.
