Abstract
An auto-drive system for accelerating durability test of vehicles on rough road has been established at the Namyang proving ground of Hyundai Motor Company. Durability tests have been performed using this new system since 1997. The main purpose of this system is to replace human driving on rough road for durability tests. The three years of operation has yielded some valuable information, which were used to enhance the efficiency of the system. The system is working well under various harsh weather conditions and is reliable. In this paper, the main structure of the auto-drive system will be described followed by the discussions on its safety functions, durability and reliability.
